Farewell Dinner for Richard and Holly Planned Thursday November 16

Richard and Holly are off to Adelaide next month.

Whenever I go to the Grove to buy a lasagne I always seem to bump into Richard and Holly.

Sadly, the last time I bumped into them Richard asked for the Warriors to give him a clearance to play baseball in Adelaide.

It seems that his all round baseball skills have been noticed interstate; negotiations have been completed and the transfer signed for an undisclosed sum.

As a player Richard was always available, never complained, even when put out in the boon docks. He's got a great swing that is the envy of many players in the club. Pity the pitchers had so much trouble hitting the centre of it.

I'd like to thank you both for the pleasure of your company this season. You have supported every event we held this season and we really apreciate it.

Therefore, on Thursday Novemeber 16 at 6pm I would like to ask you both to come along to the Sporties where the Warriors will be able to have a $6 steak or schnitzel, a bit of a drink, and for us all to wish you all the best in person. All Warriors are invited.

Thanks Richard, thanks Holly; "Played hard, done good!!!" May you catch all the flys hit your way.

There is no truth in the rumour that a perpetual "Richard 'Babe' Ruth" award will be created for the most K's during the season. Or is there?

Anybody wishing to leave a message for them can post a comment.

Warriors Celebrate Presentation Night 2006

PETER JONES - CLUBPERSON OF THE YEAR 2006

Warriors' players and supporters celebrated in style at their 2006 Presentation Night held at Warilla Sports Club. Emcee Michael St John kept proceedings running smoothly and his presentations of the unofficial awards were met with much mirth and amusement.

In attendance to help with the presentations were invited guests Peter Clifford, Vice president of the Illawarra Baseball League; IBL Life Member Wal Smith, Illawarra Umpires Association President Gordon Lester along with Clarrie Bailey and Trevor Tretheway representing Warilla Sports Club Board of Directors.

It was good to see so many supporters turning up on the night. Wives, girlfriends, husbands, kids and relatives. I'm sure we all agree that your support is very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Peter Jones (pictured) received the Clubperson of the Year award from IBL Life Member Wal Smith in recognition of his services. A quiet achiever, Pete always seems to be there when there is something to be done; whether setting up the ground or dismantling it, filling in when teams are short or helping out coaching bases or at training.

And The 2006 Winners were:

Accolades for Third Grade were presented by Coach Terry Williams and Club Treasurer Peter Rogers with the MVP award going to rookie Kevin Gamble. Peter Benny won the batting with a .455 average while Michael St. John got the fielding with .959

IUA President Gordon Lester and coach Mic Talbot presented Andrew Piper with the MVP award for Second Grade; Mark Douglas (.375) got the batting and Amie Teixeira (.984) received the fielding award.

Coach Dave Daley and IBL Vice President Peter Clifford presented Dale Chudleigh with the First Grade MVP award; Chris Guillame (.630) got the batting and Liam Talbot (.929) topped the fielding.

IBL Life Member and Umpire Wal Smith presented Brad Dore with Rookie of the Year award.

Speeches from official guests Peter Clifford, Gordon Lester, Wal Smith, Trevor Tretheway and Clarrie Bailey during the evening were all very supportive of the Warriors' Baseball Club and gave an insight into the high regard in which the Warriors are held in circles outside our own club.

After the official presentations were completed it was on with the karaoke, when after a bit of a shy start Amie and Michelle got the place hopping. Di put on a superb performance as did Geoff and Mick Tex. The group rendition of "We Are The Champions" was a special. All in all, it seems as if everybody had a good time which is what it's all about, isn't it?

If you wish to see some Presentation Night photos, you can click on Awards to see the awards photos (57 photos) or People to see the people pics (51 photos).

That brings to a close the Shellharbour City Warriors Baseball Club season for 2006. I hope you all enjoyed it and yo'all come back now, ya hear!!!

We now need to start working on the development of the new ground at Myimbarr. Updates will be posted here as they develop.

Dougo Takes Out the Coveted Spud Award

Mark "Dougo" Douglas couldn't hide his elation when Gary "Spud" Lister presented him with the Warriors' version of the Brownlow Medal at the Warriors' 2006 end of season Presentation Night.

Dougo accepted the perpetual Spud trophy for best "Full Swing Infield Bunt" with great aplomb and in his speech left us with the unforgettable words: "I work with the bastard all week. Now I have to look at his ugly mug on the weekend as well!!!". Congratulations Dougo; all that batting training paid off, didn't it!
